Hetalia pisses me off and I don't know why.
Hell, I don't even know what it is. Is it a cartoon? Is it a comic? Is it a game? Is it really, heavily xenophobic (yes)?

I really don't know but it provokes a primal reacion of hostility in me for NO DISCERNABLE REASON which is weird. Is it because it's xenophobic? Is it because it's not xenophobic enough? Is it because everyone looks the same? I DON'T KNOW.

Okay rant over thought I'd share. No offense to watchers of mine who're fans, I really don't have anything against Hetalia it just grinds my gears somehow.

Edit: Okay, I've looked up Hetalia a bit and the idea itself sounds decent, maybe even something I could possibly enjoy (haven't read a real comic though so I can't say) but as I said: I have a lot of trouble liking things where I can't tell characters apart. This, especially in a comic where people are supposed to be countries (so there should be a lot of diversity if only based on the different stereotypes) is a terrible mistake.
I mean, for instance, this picture:
[link]
Out of what I suppose are all the characters (twenty-two) I could only recognize four, and one I'm not even sure about. I mean, I recognized Germany based on the blonde hair, blue eyes and uniform, but why are there twelve countries with some variation of blonde hair and blue eyes? I can think of Germany and Holland but apart from that we don't have any country known for those specific features in Europe, except Norway, Finland and Sweden but I'm guessing they're not in the comic.

I could tell Italy was Italy only because he's eating pizza. Why doesn't he have a tan? Is he a randy character? I hope they didn't only make France be the loverboy because Italy can offer some serious competition.

Saudi Arabia(?)'s there for no special reason.

And I thought that guy might be France because he's wearing a beret, but then I noticed that like three characters have berets so er.

I know the guy in the jacket punching the air's America because I'd seen fan art of him but I never would have guessed if I didn't know beforehand. Since when are Americans blonde-haired and blue-eyed? I'm vaguely aware of that stereotype but it's not true because they're from a primarily British descent and British people aren't blonde. I mean the Royals might be but they bred with Germans.
And if we're realy following stereotypes, shouldn't America be a fatass?

"Northern Italy: A bright and energetic nation that progressed from being the kin of Roma Antiqua, widely recognized as the strongest nation in the world, to being clumsy and irresponsible. Personified as being carefree, cowardly and lackadaisical (noted by his collection of white flags he uses to surrender), he often depends on Germany to resolve issues. Nods to Italian culture include his artistry and recurrent portrayal of pasta and pizza. He has an older brother, who represents southern Italy and who is commonly known as Italy Romano."
What! No mention at all of Italy being a raunchy mofo? Oh, come on! Those guys have the reputation as the best lovers, even surpassing the French because Italians aren't as gay as the French. And if you read the France bio: it's never mentioned why Italy's cowardly when France was the one who surrendered all the time. Other gripe with the France bio: it's written that after the fall of Napoleon they start sucking at war and start attracting tourists with wine.
Someone didn't do their homework ):<

In fact let's just run through a list of all that's wrong in the bios:
"Personified as being carefree, cowardly and lackadaisical (noted by his collection of white flags he uses to surrender), he often depends on Germany to resolve issues. Nods to Italian culture include his artistry and recurrent portrayal of pasta and pizza." (italy)
"He is inexperienced in the outside world, but does his best to learn all he can." (japan)
"He also has immense physical strength and courage, although he has a crippling fear of ghosts," (usa. the first part's debatable but what the hell's up with the second sentence)
"pretty much everything in the britain bio"
"russia, what the hell"

Despite all the problems I could maybe like it sort of? It's not a thing I'd condemn anyone for liking at any rate. It's just kind of bad.

It's a humor comic strip. 4koma style, from what I remember.

I agree with the point of everyone looking the same. I used to like the history/military jokes until I found that the fandom was only there for the pretty ghey boiz. AND THEN I CRIED
:iconjiggly:
You know what it is?

IT'S STUPID.

I loathe it as well... very much so.
:iconamericonedream:
I like it because it's just so stupid and ridiculous. But you do learn some nifty facts along the way. *shrug* It's not something people should take seriously, like any cartoon or comic.
It's a webcomic/manga/ 5 minute anime that they stream online, btw.

Ugh i hate it like i hate southpark

I love the show (SP) but i hate the fandom that has been created on dA

Pairings and shit, I mean not EVERYTHING has to be ghey :\ but its not that, I dont mind that one bit compared the the fact that people use the characters as their own. Meaning, instead of their own art, their own characters. They use the characters from Hetalia, and SP in their own storys, making it their own entirely. It just makes me think, if they have enough imagination to make this of this fandom, than why cant they create their own characters and do the same.

Sorry, I just love how I could vent, and be on topic xD

I never knew what Hetalita is until you mentioned it in this journal! It looks rather strange, all of the people look the same. I'm also rather confused with the fact that this is about World War 2, but their character descriptions don't really sound like anything that would have to do with the time period. Hmm.

...and you are lynching negroes.

It's a comic, and then they made an awful cartoon. I do like it, but it causes lots of wank, so it's probably a good idea to ignore its existence.

In reality the roads of London are paved of dirt and broken dreams.
My dear boy, remember that it is unsightly to force your opinions on others!
:iconphoenix13x5:
Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark is actually in the comic. And if I remember right, they're all blonde, too. You know, the stereotype Scandinavian; blonde+blue eyed. If Denmark doesn't have green-eyes or something. I'm actually a bit unsure of Finland's eye-colour.

I still find it amusing that Norway looks really err submissive/effeminate ish. I like the marine uniform though. But I'm still weirded out by the Denmark x Norway pairing, not my cup of tea for sure.
